AGM Report
by Peter Tuft
If you missed the Rogaining Tas AGM on 21 February you missed maybe 20 min of formalities and also a very social couple of hours with other rogainers and some tasty food. The formalities were ... a bit formal but brief. We have a slightly rearranged committee of mostly the same people, listed below. Gary Carroll presented the president’s report and also (on behalf of Ross Kelly who was unable to attend) presented the treasurer’s report (see below) which shows Rogaining Tas to be in a comfortable financial position.
There was one item of general business at the end, the nomination of Gary Carroll for life membership. There was no need for debate, the motion was carried by acclamation. The citation can be read here.
The committee now comprises:
President: Gary Carroll
Vice President: Bernard Walker
Secretary: Peter Tuft
Treasurer: Ross Kelly
Committee:
- Nick Bowden
- Sebastian Burgess
- Liz Canning
- Nicolë Carpenter
- Karen Wild-Allen
- Stephen Yam
TREASURER’S REPORT 2025
by Ross Kelly
2025 was a successful year financially for RT, with a surplus of just over $3,000 compared with around $1,800 in the previous period of 15 months. The result was especially noteworthy as we only held 3 rogaines in 2025 compared with 5 in the previous 15 month period.
The Committee aims to generate sufficient revenue from shorter metro events to enable longer events to be held at the lowest possible entry fee, given the much higher cots of holding longer, more remote bush events.
In fact, despite our intentions, the opposite happened! The 24-hour Stagger On rogaine had the largest cash surplus of around $5,500 compared with around $1,700 for each of the two metro events. This happened because the number of Stagger On entries far exceeded expectations, particularly due to around two dozen interstate entries. Also resulting in the disparity in revenues are the higher take-up of junior and other concessions in the shorter metro events compared with the 24 hour event. These figures are before the allocation of some $3,000 of insurance costs.
Surpluses from events are essential, as we don’t have separate membership subscriptions, and have to cover the cost of our physical equipment and IT assets, all of which are subject to wear and tear in our outdoor situations. Our accumulated funds of $23,000 provide a buffer against any contingencies arising from our holding of the Ausralian Championships next year.
As provided for by the Associations Incorporation Act and our own constitution, the accounts are not audited, but are available for review if requested by members. Our banking procedures require that every transaction be separately authorised by two committee members.
